    Strategic Staffing Solutions is currently looking for a Capital Project Control Specialist (Scheduler/Estimator) for a contract opportunity with one of our largest clients located in Ann Arbor, MI!

    Title: Capital Project Control Specialist (Scheduler/Estimator)

    Engagement Description

    Assists the project management teams by developing, monitoring and updating estimates and/or an integrated project plan and schedule so that the project may be executed in the most efficient manner possible. Applies methods and techniques, standards, processes, procedures, guidelines and templates, to efficiently manage, develop, and control project estimates/schedules. Assignments are received in the form of results expected; within operating policies and procedures. Incumbent has the discretion to select from alternative approaches; decisions may involve changes to normal work processes. Span of control: 0; this is an individual contributor job.

    • Supports project team and estimating/scheduling personnel efforts toward the development of the project plan and translating the project plan into the project estimate/schedule.
    • Develops and provides analysis of project estimates or schedules, including, as applicable, CPM software implementation, time impact and delay analysis, and review of periodic schedule updates.
    • Ensures the credibility of the information contained in the estimate/schedule.
    • Assists with the preparation of project time and/or cost claims.
    • Develops and records project historical estimate/schedule information and lessons learned.
    • Applies methodologies, techniques and tools, software, standards and guidelines for estimating and/or planning/scheduling; knowledgeable in application of estimating/scheduling software and application of the software.
    • Ensures that required project estimating and/or planning/scheduling controls are appropriately implemented and maintained.
    • Participates in continuous improvement of the estimating/scheduling organization through benchmarking and maintaining affiliations with industry estimating/scheduling organizations and local/national chapters.
    • Develops master and detail schedules inclusive of major milestones, detailed WBS, assignment of costs, labor and equipment to activities, resource leveling, etc.
    • Monitors and updates schedule progress toward achieving the desired project completion date and informing management team of changes to schedule outcome.
    • Prepares and provides schedule progress reports, trending charts, and schedule analysis and re-ports forecasts for all significant project activities. Analyzes the effects to the critical path activities; identifies changes to the project that affect the schedule, and develops the recovery schedules and alternate courses of action.

    Preferred Skills/Experience

    • Scheduler: 2+ years of experience working with Primavera, preferably P6
    • Estimator: 2+ years of experience in construction estimating on large projects, also N8, Heavy Bed, & RSmeans experience

    Education/Certifications

    This is a dual track base requirement job; education & experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following options:

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business, Business Administration or a related field & 3+ years of job-relevant experience.
    • Associate degree in engineering, Construction Management, Business, Accounting, Math, or related field & 5+ years of job-relevant experience.
    • High School or GED, & 7+ years of job-relevant experience.

    Other Requirements

    • May require the physical ability to work in a power plant environment (e.g climb stairs, work in hot, confined environments.
    • Communicates effectively (verbally & in writing) with individuals at all levels, inside and outside the Corporation.
    • Written and verbal communication & advocacy skills consistent with the ability to present results of projects & research,

    Job Summary:

    Energy Managers shall:

    • Provide demand side energy conservation program management to large commercial and industrial customers by performing reviews of energy consuming systems and equipment including maintenance functions, operating practices and physical conditions.
    • Understand utility usage patterns and perform studies for reduction opportunities, promote energy conservation through the implementation of established best practices, provide energy conservation awareness education, and integrate new energy efficient technologies and energy usage analysis.

    Key Accountabilities:

    Energy Managers shall:

    • Identify and analyze energy conservation opportunities, with the objective of optimizing energy utilization.
    • Provide assistance resolving billing issues, power quality issues, momentary outage resolution and any other utility-related customer concerns.
    • Provide energy waste reduction technical support for designated customers. Energy sources include, but are not limited to, electricity, natural gas, steam, compressed air, and water.
    • Understand existing and new products, services and technologies to optimize energy usage in a cost-effective manner.
    • Develop and implement energy management programs and awareness activities.
    • Support customers’ development of annual energy budgets.
    • Provide project management support in implementation of energy related projects.
    • Assist in driving customer and overall Company energy reduction targets
    • Follow all health and safety procedures and requirements of Company and the Customer.
    • Lead and advise Customer energy teams.

    Energy Managers shall have the following qualifications:

    • Minimum: Associate degree in engineering / engineering technology, or a related technical discipline, & knowledge / capabilities typically acquired through 3-plus years of job-relevant experience, such as experience in energy management.
    • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in engineering / engineering technology, or related technical discipline; Professional Engineer’s license or Certified Energy Manager certification from the Association of Energy Engineers.
    • Intermediate-to-advanced analytical and project management skills, including scheduling, estimating and budgeting
    • Communicates effectively (verbally & in writing) with individuals at all levels, inside and outside the Corporation
    • Analytical & problem-solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key energy improvement-related issues and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
    • Ability to conduct efficacious meetings and manage the meeting process with optimal results.
    • Ability to initiate new ideas and approaches; challenges prevailing practices & approaches with feasible alternatives.
    • Familiarity with ISO50001, Energy Star Portfolio Manager, DOE Energy Star 50001Ready, LEED, Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, Visual Factory, etc., and ability to help Customers implement Energy Management Systems based on these programs.
    • Knowledge of utility Energy Waste Reduction programs and Michigan Energy Measures Database.
    • Ability to evaluate Building Management System data to seek opportunities to incrementally improve operations and maintenance practices.
