Job Summary
The IT FinOps Engineer plays a critical role in managing and optimizing cloud financial operations across the organization. This position bridges the gap between finance, engineering, and operations to ensure cost-effective cloud usage, financial accountability, and strategic alignment with business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain real-time cost observability pipelines.
- Develop dashboards and alerts to monitor cloud spend and usage anomalies.
- Implement tagging strategies for accurate cost attribution.
- Design and manage chargeback/showback models for internal stakeholders.
- Analyze cloud usage to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Implement automation to eliminate idle resources and enforce usage policies.
- Calculate unit economics for cloud services.
- Evaluate ROI of cloud investments and optimization initiatives.
- Define and enforce FinOps policies and standards.
- Develop governance frameworks for cost accountability.
- Create reports and dashboards for finance, engineering, and leadership.
- Communicate trends, forecasts, and actionable insights.
- Partner with DevOps, engineering, and finance teams.
- Align cloud spend with business and technical objectives.
- Support cloud budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Assist in vendor negotiations and contract management.
- Conduct training and develop documentation/playbooks.
- Review and refine cost-saving initiatives.
- Stay updated on cloud pricing models and FinOps tools.
