Job Title: Regulatory Analyst – Wholesale Rates & FERC Compliance
Contract: Permanent Role
Location: Kansas City, MO Hybrid Schedule
Job Description:
Under the general direction of the Regulatory Affairs Manager, this position will be primarily responsible for the company’s wholesale generation formula rate and power supply templates and revenue requirement calculations. This position will ensure all assigned filings follow regulations as defined by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Southwest Power Pool (SPP), Missouri Public Service Commission (MPSC) and Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC).
This position will participate in the following functions as necessary:
- Wholesale (FERC) docket filings, rule makings and revenue analysis
- FERC Reporting – updating assigned reports and submitting to FERC
- FERC Filings – making any necessary filing with FERC as required by protocols or as assigned
- Revenue requirement analysis
- Rate design and interpretation of tariffs
- Testimony development
- Work with personnel in various departments across the company to determine appropriate rates and pricing options for wholesale customers
- Support in FERC audits as needed
- Support in any Regulatory matter as assigned
- Support of Desk software and aid with quarterly FERC Form 1/3-Q reporting process or other Regulatory reports and filings, as needed
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field, preferably Accounting or Finance. Advanced degree preferred.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Technical knowledge of energy markets or the electric utility; or knowledge of FERC policies and regulations preferred. Knowledge of electric utility systems, FERC chart of accounts, ability to read and analyze financial accounting statements and familiarity with financial concepts as used in a regulated electric utility environment is preferred.
- Preference given to candidates for the Sr Regulatory Analyst level who hold a professional certification (i.e. CPA, PE, etc.) and a minimum of 4 years’ experience in a regulated utility industry including knowledge of electric utility systems, accounting statements and financial concepts as used in a regulated electric utility environment.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
- The ability to understand and develop regulatory practices, principles and procedures is required.
- Knowledge of the electric utility industry is preferred.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and work effectively in a highly demanding team atmosphere.
- Must be self-motivated and can enhance work with minimal direction. The ability to deal with time constraints and deadlines is essential to success.
- Must be highly detail oriented with the ability to comprehend complex data.
- Must be able to work independently and resolve issues utilizing analytical thinking, creative problem solving and sound reasoning to make sound recommendations.
- Ability to lead a team in working together to achieve specific goals.
