Job Title: Wind Turbine Technicians (Travel)
Location: Travel-Based Position
Schedule: 6 Weeks On, 1 Week Off
Travel Requirements: 100% Travel
Work Hours: 40-60 Hours Per Week
Job Overview
This is an entry-level and initial training position in the wind turbine technician series. The Level 1 Trainee role is designed to provide hands-on training for technical work associated with wind turbine maintenance and operations. Trainees will work under close supervision and follow established safety and technical procedures. Over time, they will gain proficiency in routine tasks and assist higher-level technicians with more complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
Wind Turbine Maintenance (60%)
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in wind turbines.
- Perform pad-mounted transformer switching following all Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
- Execute small and large corrective tasks on wind turbines.
- Maintain high safety standards and awareness during all work activities.
- Climb wind turbine towers up to 300 feet multiple times daily.
- Operate various equipment, including forklifts and groundskeeping tools.
- Work outdoors in diverse weather conditions for extended periods.
Compliance and Record Maintenance (20%)
- Complete Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) documentation.
- Maintain records, including work orders, timesheets, tool inventories, and PPE logs.
- Utilize systems like Maximo to track and document work orders.
Site Support (20%)
- Provide support to other company locations as needed.
- Travel to assist with tasks at other sites upon request.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to climb wind turbine towers (up to 300 feet) daily.
- Willingness to complete Level 1 job performance measures within the first year.
- Commitment to completing initial training and maintaining compliance with safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a wind training program.
- Familiarity with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies.
- Experience with high-voltage and substation maintenance.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electronic testing tools, such as voltage testers, amp clamps, and oscilloscopes.
- Experience with heavy equipment and an understanding of crane and rigging requirements.
Preferred Education:
- Associate’s degree in a technical field is a plus.
Preferred Experience:
- 1+ years of wind turbine experience or relevant technical fieldwork and/or holds a CDL
Working Conditions
- Working at heights of up to 300 feet.
- Exposure to hot and cold weather conditions.
- Ability to work a physically demanding schedule, including climbing, lifting, and operating heavy equipment.
Weight Restriction: Due to safety requirements, candidates must weigh no more than 265 pounds to ensure compliance with equipment weight limits.
